  • Soul searching is term widely used in todays society. The more disturbance one finds in the surroundings the harder it is to get in touch with one self, and find the answers to the questions one seek. Though sometimes it might feel as your soul is not to be found where you’d expect.. then again, maybe one is just searching in the wrong place..
    • To me, I have found that my soul resides with in places where it is not alone, where it can roam with other intact souls alike.. and discover and cherish those qualities and surroundings we have forgotten. And it moves from place to place, forever keeping me on my toes and on the go in the search. Though leaving small tokens of traces behind as to show me, the search will not go on forever, and one day, in the end, it might be all those pieces of the puzzle and traces you have collected that make up your soul.
    • A question I have yet to be able to answer is whether we all have our souls intact with in our selfs from the day we are born, or is this merely pieces of a soul longing to be completed..

    FROM THE ARCHIVES | WEEK 1 http://www.mortencb.com/uptodate/?p=192 http://www.mortencb.com/uptodate/?p=192#comments Fri, 17 Jul 2009 00:15:39 +0000 Morten C. B. http://www.mortencb.com/uptodate/?p=192
  • 1st in a series of weekly features where I dust of the old folders and shed light on earlier works.
    • This short series is one I am particularly fond of as I had the privilege to work in the office building featured in one of the shots. For 2 years, strawling from my apartment to my office, I was able to witness sights like these close to a daily basis, but as all sunset lovers (though I myself is not one) agree  that the sight of a sunset is forever changing and non are the same.
    • Shot with a Canon EOS 5D Canon 24-105mm f/4.0 L series lens an early winter morning in Oslo, Norway, or for those interested in specifics, Bygdøy (Dronningen), Oslo, Norway.
    • It is moments like these that make you forget the painstakingly cold walks one has to endure during winter and rather suck it up with a smile on your face while you feel your soul slowly heating up of the though of being blessed with another day to witness such beauty.
    • With out further a due, I bring you the 1st weekly feature and your well deserved Moment of Zhen.

    NK SPEAKS MAGAZINE REDESIGN http://www.mortencb.com/uptodate/?p=150 http://www.mortencb.com/uptodate/?p=150#comments Thu, 16 Jul 2009 16:01:04 +0000 Morten C. B. http://www.mortencb.com/uptodate/?p=150
  • Magazine redesign for NK SPEAKS
    • Like the painted chariot of a lonely salesman in a crowded market, slowly cracking and pealing off in the spotlight of the life giving sun and the harshness of time. Likewise is a magazine exposed to ageing, though not in the aspect of requiring a new paint job, but a redesign. There are hundreds of other chariots in the market with just as appealing and hunger relieving articles and content for a potential reader to choose among. Of course the old salesman relies on his regular customer base which knows his products/articles and trust him. Though the prospect of new customers are limited, and in the end with any product as with food, how it looks makes up for 70% of how appealing the hamburger seem to a customer.
    • In short a fresh and updated redesign of the NK Speaks Magazine was need.
    • One of the main factors which was taken into consideration was that this was a free magazine and thus the price does not play any part in wetter a potential read picks up the magazine after checking his wallet.
    • So as to stand out amongst the other magazines, a easy to read, spacious and eye calming layout was needed and achieved through use of large scale photographs, vivid natural colors and indulging header layouts.

    MEDITERANIAN JOURNALISM AWARD POSTER DESIGN http://www.mortencb.com/uptodate/?p=72 http://www.mortencb.com/uptodate/?p=72#comments Tue, 14 Jul 2009 09:47:48 +0000 Morten C. B. http://www.mortencb.com/uptodate/?p=72
  • Poster Design done for the Mediterranean Journalism Awards.
    • This assignment in it self, was something that I was proud to take on, as Journalistic photography is one of my main lines of interest and journalism and what this idea stands for is something rooted deep within my heart.
    • MJA V1 : For all the non Arabic speakers, the text with the question mark in the middle reads “Journalism!”.
I wanted to go as down to basics as possible to convey a clear and direct message.
Journalism and peace is often related to the United Nations, thus the reason for the deliberate use of “close to” UN blue and keep the rest in the color of the power of journalism, or in other words black ink.
The word Journalism is left untouched, as like the idea of freedom, you can kill the mind, but you can not kill an idea. While the exclamation mark is shown cut up, grungy and “in the shit”, to emphasis what many of “the voice of the weak” go through on a day to day basis in order to send a message and tell the world.
    • MJA V1
    • MJA1
    • MJA V2 : As with every story that needs to be told, it starts with a white piece of paper, and a message to be formulated and brought to light. In this piece the story it self is literally unfolding/breaking through, not with words, but with the main elements of Journalism. Printed media/written, photography, film and radio. From the dark unknown to the newspaper on your doorstep..

  • 3 Brochure Designs for the PICO Group.
    Industrial | Engenering & Machinery
    • I dont have much to elaborate on this particular assignment, as the client demanded a clean and corporate design, which leaves little room for artistic freedom and thought patterns.
Though one little touch I would like to highlight was the use of color. As this brochure was intended to be portrayed with Industrial as green, Engineering as blue and Machinery as red.
Though I felt the need to draw industry away from pollution and the color green which is often related to it. Blue as one of the most used corporate colors was chosen to convey sincerity and a focus on clean industry.
The Engineering went green as to related it to nature and construction for a better tomorrow.
And finally Machinery with yellow for its energetic visual representation and the fact that it is a well established color and identity within the machinery business often related to Caterpillar Industries.

    BEAUTY WORLD DUBAI 2009 http://www.mortencb.com/uptodate/?p=51 http://www.mortencb.com/uptodate/?p=51#comments Mon, 13 Jul 2009 21:29:21 +0000 Morten C. B. http://www.mortencb.com/uptodate/?p=51
  • Brochure Designs for Egyptian Cosmetic Exporters, Dubai Exporters Exhibition, Dubai 2009
    • CONCEPT :
Cosmetics and female beauty has walked hand in hand since the dawn of time. One complementing the other.
Though a fact that one can not avoid when faced with some of the general perceptions of cosmetics, is that it is to often used to cover up flaws rather than enhance a quality.
The enitial concept I elaborated on (in BWD v1-3) was to focus on cosmetics as a enhancer rather than a coverup. Every woman has features which are beautiful, so I wanted to put cosmetics in a more natural light.. an enhancer of natural beauty.
    • BWD V1 : The tree of beauty, like a tree the roots is the womans natural features.. and above ground, the branches and the actual visual interpetation of the tree is the cosmetics as enhancers of her natural roots.
    • BWD V1
    • bwd1
    • BWD V2 :
“The white canvas– it’s like a layer of dust that covers up the real painting. It’s just a matter of cleaning it. I have a little brush to clear away the blue, another for the red, and another brush for the green. And when I’ve finihsed cleaning, the picture is all there.”

      Georges Braque
      French Cubist/Fauvist
      Painter, 1882-1963

A quotation I have had in my mind ever since I read it, and I drew a parallel between painting a canvas and applying makeup.
The beauty and elements are already there.. its just a matter of revealing them.
    • BWD V2
    • bwd3
    • BWD V3 : Here I went back to my roots again, by that I mean nature, and looked at a flower before and after it springs out.
How its features and beauty is always there, yet not visible until it opens up in all its pride in order to attract bees and insects with its colors and and sencual smell.
And a woman, like a flower, carries with her, her natural beauty wherever she goes, and cosmetics in this case is the soft touch of a lipstick to truly open her up and reveal her true beauty.
